The 3 P’s To Success

I recently read a great blog about apprenticeship and mentoring, it included a great list of questions to ask your mentor.  The one that I found most insightful was “What are your 3 keys to success, and why?”  While responses may vary, I hold to what I call the 3 P’s, Passion, Practice, and Perseverance.

Passion – You have to do what you like.  Passion gives light to vision, you have to be willing to give wholeheartedly to your job, mission, cause, sport, family, whatever it may be.  Passion provides the vision, vision provide the goal for success.

Practice – You must try to fail.  Or you can’t fail until you try, either way you put it the idea is that you will never achieve anything unless you practice.  Some are gifted with God-given talent, they are instantly good at something, while others who want to be good, must practice.  I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way, but success is not a God-given gift.  If you want it you have to practice.  Successful people work hard, they understand that practice is a life long task.

Perseverance – I also read a recent poll that the number 1 trait of successful people is perseverance.  Every time I read the word perseverance I am reminded of this great quote by Thomas Edison “Many of life’s failures are experienced by people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”  It is simple, if you want to succeed, don’t give up.

At the end of the day if you are willing to persevere through the practice, and practice with a passion, then you will find success.

Please share with me your 3 keys to success.

God Bless,

Michael E. Grasso
